An official press release from O.F. Mossberg & Sons Inc. thanks local leaders for passing H.B. 1819, which will allow the Mossberg 590 Shockwave, which is manufactured in Texas, to be sold legally in The Lone Star State effective September 1, 2017.
Thanks to efforts by members of the Texas House of Representatives and Texas Senate, House Bill (HB) 1819 passed in May 2017, the Mossberg 590 Shockwave will be legal in the state of Texas, beginning September 1, 2017. The legislation was advanced through the combined efforts of Senators Charles Perry and Craig Estes, Representatives Poncho Nevarez and Drew Springer, the National Rifle Association (NRA®) and Texas State Rifle Association (TSRA®) and clarified Texas state laws concerning the purchase of suppressors and certain firearms, including the 590 Shockwave pump-action. The change in the law hits close to home for Mossberg as the company proudly manufactures the 590 Shockwave at their facility in Eagle Pass, Texas, which is also the home district for Representative Nevarez.
The Mossberg 590 Shockwave was unveiled at SHOT Show 2017 and quickly became a favorite for the Armslist team. The design toes the line set by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE) controlling SBRs. “Shotguns” are defined as shoulder-braced weapons and are subject to barrel length restrictions. The BATFE assessed the 590 Shockwave and issued a letter in March 2017 declaring the Shockwave to be a non-NFA “firearm”, and therefore not subject to barrel length restrictions.
Texans will soon be able to enjoy this very cool firearm, but you may already be free to acquire one, check your state laws and local FFL.
